Eating out a donkey (2007)

The series Eating Out a Donkey was inspired by European decorative elements and recreated objects of popular and indigenous cultures in Colombia.  The project was composed of interlaced elements of high and low culture and their ideological implications, examining notions of taste and class, inherited from the colonial age that are still prevalent in contemporary Latin America. For example, one piece from this series, Indian Ink, incorporated a Louis XV decorative style with indigenous Colombian games that visitors could play in the exhibition space. In this way the works simulate base materialism by creating the unsettling form of matter that disrupts high and low polarities, ultimately subverting of their defining elements.
